Career Mode
Every other flight-sim “career mode” is a hidden number that goes up. GroundNav’s runs an actual hiring pipeline: real airlines, real wait times measured in days, real pass/fail stages, and a seniority number that’s genuinely yours. As far as we know, nothing else in flight simulation goes this far.

Choose your entry path
Real World starts you at zero hours as a Student Pilot, exactly like a real cadet. Competency lets you test out of the bottom rungs: pass 10 graded flights averaging 85%+ and you start higher up the rank ladder.
Apply to a real airline
Not a made-up airline with a made-up logo: the Job Board lists 41 real-world carriers, each with its own minimum hours and rank requirement pulled straight from how that airline actually hires. You can only apply where you’d genuinely qualify.
The bigger the airline, the harder it is to get in
Every application is assigned a tier based on the airline’s real-world prestige. A regional low-cost carrier is a two-step formality. A legacy long-haul carrier is a multi-week gauntlet, on purpose.
| Tier | Airlines | Stages | Wait |
|---|---|---|---|
| T1 | Prestige 1–3: Cebu Pacific, Azul, and similar | Screening → Offer | 18–36h |
| T2 | Prestige 4–6: Ryanair, easyJet, Southwest, IndiGo | Screening → Aptitude → Tech Quiz → Sim Eval → Offer | 48–72h / stage |
| T3 | Prestige 7–8: major international carriers | Screening → COMPASS → HR Interview → Tech Quiz → Sim Eval → Medical → Offer | 72–120h / stage |
| T4 | Prestige 9–10: Emirates, Lufthansa, British Airways tier | Screening → Advanced COMPASS → HireVue → Panel → Advanced Quiz → Assessment Day → Background Check → Offer | 120–336h / stage |
Screening, aptitude tests, and interviews, for real
Every stage change lands in your in-app pilot inbox, exactly like a real recruitment correspondence. Higher tiers add an aptitude battery, a technical systems quiz, and an HR or panel interview. Each has its own pass rate and a real deadline to complete it. Miss the window and you’re out, with a cooldown before you can try again. A Study Library in the app carries real prep material for these tests, so you’re not walking in blind.

Next Step: Aptitude Test, First Officer (Narrowbody)
Congratulations on progressing to the next stage of your application. You are invited to complete the Aptitude Test. You have 7 days to complete this step.
Sim evaluation, medical, background check
The top two tiers add a real simulator evaluation flown against the airline’s own criteria, a medical assessment, and (at the very top) a background check pulled from your actual employment history in the game. Fail any of it and the airline moves on without you.
The offer, and signing your seniority away
Pass every stage and you get a formal offer with a 7-day window to accept. Sign it and you get a real contract: an actual salary and hourly rate from that airline, a 3-month probation, and (the part no one else in flight sim has) a genuine seniority number. First hire at that airline is #1. Every hire after counts up from there, permanently.
Fly the line
You’re on the roster. Dispatch releases and crew briefings gate every flight, pulling real route, fuel, and MEL data from the aircraft’s own maintenance record. Your contract expects 8 sectors a month at 80%+ on-time. That’s a genuine performance term, not a formality.
Weeks and months of a real career after that
Monthly payslips. Quarterly performance reviews. A line check at 12 months. Recurrent checks every 6 months to keep your type ratings current. Type-rating courses through the GroundNav Aviation Academy to unlock bigger aircraft. And when a captain slot opens up, it’s your seniority number (not luck) that decides if it’s yours.
What comes next
GroundNav already has the bones of an owner-operator track: fleet, crew, and finance tools sit in the codebase today. Turning it back on, properly, alongside everything above, is on the roadmap. No date to promise yet, just the direction.
